Jean-Marc THIBAULT is a European and French Patent attorney and a European Trademark and Design Attorney. He heads Beau de Loménie’s Lyon Office.
Jean-Marc began his IP career in 1985 as a patent attorney in the European Society for the Defence of Innovation and Creation. He joined Beau de Loménie Lyon in 1986.
Jean-Marc advises French companies in their efforts to obtain, optimise the value of, and defend patents, including IP strategy appropriate to each company. He also undertakes freedom-to-operate studies and is involved in the follow-up and support activities for pre-litigation and litigation proceedings. He has solid experience with all procedures/proceedings before the European Patent Office-EPO: oral examination or opposition proceedings, and EPO appeals.
Jean-Marc currently leads the BDL Lyon Office, which is composed of around ten professionals who support French and foreign companies of all sizes, in the areas of patents, trademarks, designs, copyright and domain names.
In addition, Jean-Marc is very actively involved in teaching patent law at several institutions in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Having previously lectured to students of École des Mines-EM in Saint-Étienne and EM Lyon, he has been a lecturer since 2004, in the Master’s Programme “Management of innovation and Intellectual Property” at the University of Lyon.
Jean-Marc is an active member of IP professional associations: Groupe Rhône-Alpes pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle-GRAPI [Rhône-Alpes Group for the Protection of Intellectual Property], Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle-AIPPI [International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property].
